The América Solidaria Professional Fellows program call for applications

Now Open! Be one of us. Become a Volunteer! We're excited to announce our third round of applications for the March 2015-2016 fellow class!
Join America Solidaria's dream of overcoming poverty and integrating the continent.
América Solidaria (AS) is an international social justice network promoting effective volunteer engagement in the Americas. Founded in 2002 in Chile, AS has offices in Bogota, Colombia; Port au Prince, Haiti; Lima, Peru; Montevideo, Uruguay; and Washington DC, United States.
Being one of the very few Latin American nonprofit organizations that alleviates poverty outside of its borders, our mission is to build networks of cooperation throughout the
Americas. We work towards strengthening local projects with professional fellows by increasing the impact and ability of
disadvantaged communities, helping them to become empowered and raise
their standard of living América Solidaria (AS) is a nonprofit that partners with local organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean to examine, identify and ultimately get rid of the major problems facing a given community. AS looks for Professional Fellows who are interested in increasing the effectiveness and awareness of developmental grassroots organizations. By doing so, they can develop effective projects to help alleviate inequality and poverty by focusing on health, education and economic
development to increase employment and promote entrepreneurial opportunities in a community. Through their tireless efforts, our volunteers have improved the lives of countless children and
adolescents in communities all across the continent.
Since its launch in 2002, AS has sent over 460 professionals fellows from different parts of the Americas to volunteer in a wide range of projects at various host organizations.
Professional Fellows participate in rigorous community-run cross-cultural and technical projects that emphasize organizing grassroots organizations, community engagement and leadership development. Professional fellows become a part of an ongoing collaborative effort, working through a cycle of projects that addresses issues in disadvantaged communities and builds a greater organizational capacity to help overcome poverty.
Our Fellows' unique backgrounds in education, careers, work
experience, and skills sets are as diverse as the projects of the host
organizations and communities they serve. For this reason, we work
closely with partner organizations to identify prospective professional fellows to strategically complement the needs and interests of organizations with the skills and interests of our Fellows.
Professional fellows help develop community partnerships and activities that provide long-term and sustainable tools to decrease inequality and poverty in a community.
The Fellowship is a one-year service program that includes an out-of country orientation that provides workshops to facilitate cross-cultural, technical, health, and safety skills. With the belief that international communities are pioneers in personal and cultural transformations, our professional fellows live alongside other fellows from participating countries in
the communities they serve. These communities can range from small
rural villages to large urban centers. After completing their year of service, professional fellows return to their home
country as global citizens, with an unbeatable cross-cultural
understanding and leadership and technical skills that set them up for
future professional opportunities.
