A GUIDE TO TWEETING FOR PEACE and SOCIAL CHANGE
A GUIDE TO TWEETING FOR PEACE and SOCIAL CHANGE
http://www.internationalpeaceandconflict.org/profiles/blog/show?id=780588%3ABlogPost%3A726981&xgs=1&xg_source=msg_share_post
Since its founding in 2006, Twitter has rapidly grown to be one of the most powerful online platforms for connecting hundreds of millions of individuals and organizations around the world. While the estimates vary, Twitter estimates they have over 100 million active monthly users of the platform and almost 500 million registered Tweeters, with several hundred million tweets sent per day (see http://www.mediabistro.com/alltwitter/twitter-statistics-2012_b18914) . The service is experiencing exponential growth and has rapidly changed the Internet (see the bottom of the guide for an infographic that has more detailed info/stats on Twitter).
This resource guide provides an introduction to Twitter, discuss the role it can and has played in peacebuilding and social change and offers key resources to begin actively using the platform. Over the past few years, Twitter has rapidly become a powerful tool for connecting social activists fostering political reform and change in many regions of the world. From the Arab spring countries, to Occupy Wall Street in the US, to how individuals inform and connect on serious issues such as organizing political movements, documenting resistance, reporting on violence, to more lighthearted uses such as connected groups around common issues, ranging from education to humor, Twitter has and will continue to have a tremendous impact. It is important to note Twitter is part of the larger movement of using mobile tools for social tools, such as the field of crisis mapping (http://crisismappers.net/ a separate PCDN guide should be forthcoming soon on this field).

The World Insight call for papers. Get published!
http://www.aidemocracy.org/students/the-publication-amplifying-the-voice-of-the-young-global-citizen/
Help us define and build a more just and sustainable world.
Our planet, nation and generation face incredible challenges, from unemployment to poverty to climate change. However you slice it, youth are often among the most adversely impacted by global challenges.
The World Insight is a platform for youth to express our views on the greatest challenges facing us today, as well as how we can build a better world. Featuring policy analysis, interviews with young global leaders, leadership tips, and ideas on how you can get more involved in building the world our generation will inherit, the World Insight amplifies the voice and applauds the action of the millennial generation.
We are now accepting submissions for the next edition of the World Insight, which will be published in late January 2013. This edition will focus on expressing youth priorities for the next presidential administration. This is an outstanding opportunity to get published and make your voice heard.
The beginning of a new presidential administration is an important opportunity to talk about the US role in the world. This is a moment to challenge not only our leaders but also ourselves to think about what kind of world we’re building. It’s a time to make connections, polish our skills and demand change.
Papers can be on any topic, but must engage with at least two of the following three questions: 1) why this issue matters to youth, 2) why this is a global issue, and 3) what the next administration should be doing about it. Remember, the World Insight is a journal highlighting youth perspective on US global engagement. Papers should be no longer than 2000 wo

This program offers U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to participate in unpaid internships offer an intensive educational and experiential learning experience, which provides professional experience and personal growth and development within a foreign affairs environment.
Applicants can continue to use the “U.S. Department of State Internship Program” brochure on careers.state.gov for basic information about the program, and information about bureaus and offices in the Department of State. Individual references to paid internships are no longer valid. Opportunities under the Student Experience Program are unpaid.
The U.S. Department of State is the lead U.S. foreign affairs agency responsible for advancing freedom for the benefit of the American people and the international community. The Department’s employees, Foreign Service Officers and Specialists, Civil Service professionals and Foreign Service Nationals work at over 265 locations overseas, and throughout the United States. Together, they help to build and sustain a more democratic, secure, and prosperous world composed of well-governed states that respond to the needs of their people, reduce widespread poverty, and act responsibly within the international system.
The U.S. Department of State Student Experience is an unpaid, intensive internship offering U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students a chance to participate in the formulation and implementation of U.S. foreign policy, working closely with representatives of the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign and Civil Services. The program is both professionally and academically beneficial, providing participants with hands-on experience and insight into the substance and daily operations of U.S. foreign policy.
About half of U.S. Department of State Student Experience participants serve in Washington, D.C., with a limited number of opportunities available at Department field offices and facilities in other cities in the United States. Approximately half of these opportunities are offered in many of the over 265 U.S. embassies, consulates and missions to international organizations around the world. The U.S. Department of State Student Experience is also the only program within the agency that offers U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to work at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate overseas.
Applicants are allowed to select two bureaus or overseas posts in which they would like to work. Student Experience Programs are full-time opportunities, and generally last 10 weeks.
The U.S. Department of State Student Experience is NOT part of the Pathways Program. Unpaid internships in the U.S. Department of Student Experience program cannot be non-competitively converted to Pathways Internship appointments, nor can they be non-competitively converted to career positions in the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign or Civil Services.
