The Human Rights Centre of the United Nations mandated University for Peace is accepting appications for its 3rd Annual Field Course on Indigenous Peoples' Rights that will take place from 5 - 11 August, 2013 in Amubri, Costa Rica.
Recommended for: staff of human rights NGOs and other civil society organizations, practitioners, academics, and students studying in areas of indigenous peoples' rights, human rights, environment, gender, and development. Past participants have come from a wide range of fields with diverse professional and educational experiences. We believe that for a course of this nature, the greater the diversity, the better.
Field Course: Amburi, Talamanca, Costa Rica: 5 - 11 August 2013
The field course will include an orientation at the UPEACE main campus (5 August), a five-day field trip to the Amubri region of Talamanca, Costa Rica (6-10 August) and an additional stay in the Caribbean town of Puerto Viejo (10-11 August).

Background
On 18 March 2013, the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the appointment of Ms. Mary Robinson of Ireland as his Special Envoy to the Great Lakes region. As part of her mandate, Ms. Robinson will work closely with the members of the United Nations family, both at Headquarters and those in the field, to coordinate United Nations system-wide efforts to support the implementation of the Peace, Security and Cooperation (PSC) Framework for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the region by the signatories.
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the fields of gender and international affairs, political science, development, law and/or security studies.
Experience:
- 10 years of progressively professional experience with management and supervisory experience for programming in the areas of international peace building and development or related areas. Experience should be geared to support women's empowerment and rights, with particular experience in complex and multi-component programmes on gender responsive governance, peace and security and particularly mediation and peace negotiations;
- Familiarity with political analysis and peace talks process issues (planning, design of table and agenda, engaging excluded groups);
- Familiarity with Special Political missions, good offices, work of special envoys, etc. is desirable;
- Experience writing project documents, fundraising proposals and project reports;
- Experience in developing advocacy strategies and public speaking highly desirable;
- Experience in building partnerships and engaging with civil society groups and/or women’s organizations;
- Prior experience in the Great Lakes Region highly desirable;
- International peace building experience and multi-cultural exposure.
Language Requirement:
- Fluency in both written and spoken English and French. Working knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.

Position Summary: MSI seeks a project manager/training coordinator to support the USAID Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA). The project manager will provide training support to various DCHA trainings, support a bureau wide needs assessment, and serve as main point of contact for the DCHA Learning Portal, an online forum for DCHA staff. This position is based in Washington, DC.
Responsibilities:• Work with other departments, public agencies, subcontractors, and independent consultants on the implementation of complex project tasks, programming, and other activities for assigned projects.• Direct the work of other staff and contract consultants retained to provide particular expertise in project studies, programming, development, design, or management. Participate in, or manage, the selection, hiring, and development of these individuals.• Manage different aspects of the project, including monitoring and controlling costs, scheduling, performance monitoring, anticipating and managing changes, contract compliance, maximizing customer satisfaction, logistical support to technical teams, and ensuring optimal financial performance.
