There is an opening for a Graphic Designer in Washington, DC/Remote. 5+ years’ experience required. Background: Every year, Dr. Rajiv Shah, USAID Administrator, releases an Annual Letter to showcase the Agency’s progress over the past year and discuss priorities for the coming year. Published online and in print, the Annual Letter is distributed to USAID Missions around the world, as well as key stakeholders in the U.S. Government and across the development community. It represents a unique opportunity to share USAID’s vision with a broad audience in a creative and transparent way.
Dr. Shah serves as the 16th Administrator of USAID and leads the efforts of more than 10,000 professionals in 80 missions around the world. He spearheads President Barack Obama’s landmark Feed the Future food security initiative, as well as global efforts to help end preventable child death, expand access to power, and help vulnerable communities build resilience to recurrent disasters. Taken together, these efforts have formed the foundation of a new model of development that brings high-impact partnerships and cutting-edge innovations to bear against the greatest challenges of our time.
Scope of Work: Work closely with the Administrator’s speechwriting team through regular meetings and phone calls to identify a creative and engaging design for the Annual Letter that is appropriate for print and online publication. Design the letter. This will include finding appropriate photography, creating relevant graphs from available data, and employing web tools to showcase the publication online. Arrange printing of the publication, including finding and meeting with representatives from the printer in coordination with Administrator’s speechwriting team and ensuring design and paper quality.
Deliverables: The contractor will be responsible for the following activities: Designing an Annual Letter of 5,000-6,000 words in length with color photography and graphics. Arranging and paying for the publication’s printing, which will be reimbursed by USAID. This includes finding and meeting with representatives from the printer in coordination with Administrator’s speechwriting team and ensuring design and paper quality. Facilitating publication on the website, including choosing appropriate web tools in coordination with USAID’s website team. Making last-minute text and design edits at the direction of the Administrator’s speechwriting team.
QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualifications are preferred: Five years of experiences working in graphic design and familiarity with production of print and online publications. Experience producing publications for international development organizations. Demonstrated capability to think creatively and work independently. Strong attention to detail.
