What is The Red Elephant Foundation?
The Red Elephant Foundation is an initiative that seeks to create a body of work that reflects women in a positive light through stories of inspiration, power, perseverance and courage in the face of adversity. The initiative is titled "Red Elephant" to stand out as a vehicle that projects stories that must never be forgotten: stories that show you such courage that you should never forget, and stories that show the world such profound lessons that the world should never forget. In doing so, the initiative aims at creating awareness and opening up channels of communication and development
The mission
The mission of the Red Elephant Foundation is:
- To be the voice of women and girls all over the world by telling their stories
- To be a conduit for awareness of challenges faced by women and girls in all social contexts
- To be a change-making organisation that serves to transform mindsets towards women and girls
- To encourage girls and women to be change-makers
- To encourage schools and educational institutions to include a gender sensitivity component by encouraging men and women to celebrate their diversities by beginning to respect them at first.
- To encourage governments and policy-makers to draft and implement law and policy through a gender-mainstreamed lens to serve men and women in keeping with the needs specific to their gender
- To inspire peace through dialogue, awareness and inspiration.
The Red Elephant Foundation is currently looking for volunteers for the following positions:
Writing and Storytelling
Number of positions available: 10
Description: For its Storytelling Component, selected volunteers will be responsible for putting up content on the website at regular intervals. The articles that the volunteer-writers will be required to put up will comprise blog-post styled pieces that will narrate true incidents concerning women's rights, challenges to women's empowerment and policy changes concerning women in any part of the world. An ancillary part of this will include, though not mandatory, interviews with women and girl activists, change-makers, peace-makers and social workers.
Qualifications: Journalism and Creative Writing are ideal though not mandatory. Any background with a passion and flair for writing welcome.
Commitment Requirement: Volunteers will be expected to generate content to the extent of one article for every two weeks.
Nature of position: Virtual and Unpaid
Research and Documentation
Number of positions available: 8
Description: For its Activism and Awareness Component, selected volunteers will work on the preparation of fully researched and documented fact-sheets concerning specific areas challenging women's rights and status in social settings. These fact-sheets will be cross-cutting documents that are overarching in their scope, containing details on the issue, statistics across the world, international legal aspects that govern each issue, along with infographics where necessary. These fact-sheets will be made available as downloadable PDF documents.
Qualifications: Law, Policy, Gender Studies, Development are ideal though not mandatory. Any background with a passion and flair for research welcome.
Commitment Requirement: Volunteers will be expected to create fact-sheets within a specified deadline.
Nature of position: Virtual and Unpaid
Social Media
Number of positions available: 4
Description: For the marketing and development of constituents and logistics, selected volunteers will be involved in social media management. Using platforms such as Facebook, Google+, Twitter and Pinterest, among other relevant platforms, the volunteers will be responsible for creating constituent relations with the end-user.
Qualifications: Experience with Social Media and creative thinkers are welcome to apply.
Commitment Requirement: Volunteers will be expected to be involved with Social Media on a daily basis.
Nature of position: Virtual and Unpaid
