Gender and Wages

Evelyn Murphy and E.J. Graff, coauthors of Getting Even: Why Women Don't Get Paid Like Men and What to Do About It, provide an excellent overview of the wage gap between women and men in this article. Though a little dated, Murphy and Graff point out that women only earn 77 cents on the dollar for what their male counterparts earn. If you're looking for up-to-date information about gender discrimination in the workplace, Murphy and Graff's website The WAGE Project (Women Are Getting Even) contains an excellent selection of resources including links to federal and state discrimination laws as well as a website where you can benchmark your salary and figure out what you are worth within the context of a particular position.
